Group Therapy Weekend

This group therapy opportunity runs over a weekend, offering a space to share with others and have your story heard.

In brief:

  • The group is open to everyone and anyone - with or without experience of therapy or groups, trainee and qualified therapists, anyone over the age of 18.

  • Each day begins at 9.30 and finishes at 4.30, including an hour for lunch and two short comfort breaks. A total of 12 hours therapy across both days.

  • The group is limited to 6 participants.

  • Total cost is £200/person. A deposit of £50 is required to secure your place with the remaining balance due 4 weeks prior to the group therapy weekend.

Group therapy allows you to meet, and be met, in genuine and authentic relationships. The dynamics and power of group means that a sense of connection is cultivated through the stories we share and how we share them with others.

Humankind are social creatures, and yet with more and more technological ways of connecting we’ve never felt more disconnected. The idea of group therapy may seem unusual or intimidating - it’s perfectly natural to have a concern as to who the other members of the group might be, will you like them and how exactly does it ‘work’? The group is a closed group, with a maximum of 6 members.

Group therapy ‘works’ by forming solid, genuine attachments and understanding ourselves in relation to others - promoting reflection, self-awareness, connection and growth. Ahead of the group therapy weekend, you’ll be asked to consider your 'contract'. That is, your reason for seeking therapy or what area you'd like to focus on. For some it may relate to personal development (such as being more assertive for example) and for others it may be to discuss their relationship to shame or grief. This contract is our working ground and each group member will have the time and opportunity to discuss their contract and obtain observations and input from the other group members and the therapist.

Jo works from a humanistic modality - mainly Transactional Analysis (TA) and Gestalt, where the core beliefs are that every person has worth, the right to autonomy (to decide their own future), that a person should feel safe and secure in order to explore their sense of self and there's mutuality. All Humanistic therapies share an underlying philosophy that if a person is provided with the right conditions for growth, they'll always move towards change. Jo finds the humanistic approach fits well with her own personal morals and values of integrity, honesty and empathy. Find out more about her here.

The practice is located incredibly centrally near The Old Steine and Brighton Pavilions. Meaning the city is a mere 2 mins away and the beach is a 5 min walk. There are several hotels nearby and many great shops and restaurants.

We look forward to welcoming you into the space.
