Frequently Asked Questions
How will you help me?
Every person is unique. The therapy I offer is collaborative, and responsive to you as an individual. I don’t offer ‘treatment plans’ or have a rigid construct of how to apply therapeutic theory to a person. I’m less about ‘doing something to you’ and more about ‘being alongside you’.
How exactly can YOU help ME?- The research into the therapeutic relationship shows time and time again that the connection in the room is the basis for change. You might be thinking, ‘You help me by being my therapist?’. Yes. I work relationally which means our relationship is key to increasing your awareness about your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Understanding how we relate to each other as client and therapist is as person to person, which is why the work we do in the therapy room translates to the 'outside world'.
I approach my clients with a genuine curiosity about what a particular event, relationship or experience means to you. I don’t know what it’s like for you to have lived and loved until this point where we meet. How I help is by offering you a genuine connection, with an authentic person who only ever wants to see you live the life you want.
Are you qualified?
Yes. I earned a First Class Honours in Humanistic Counselling Practice from The University of Nottingham (a Russell Group university), and I’ve completed EMDR Training (levels 1-3). I’m accredited & registered with The National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and I also undertake regular learning as part of my continuing professional development (CPD).
What model of therapy is used?
I work within the Humanistic modality where the core principle is that with the appropriate conditions a person will always move to a place of growth. This includes Gestalt, Person-Centred, Transactional Analysis & Existential theories and schools of thought.
EMDR Therapy has its own underlying theory known as AIP, yet incorporates aspects of all the modalities I mentioned previously whilst being a phased and planned approach to therapy.
Do you have a waiting list?
Currently my waiting list is closed. I aim to answer all enquiry forms as soon as I possibly can, so we can schedule our chat to discuss your therapy needs and from there we’ll be able to discuss the potential length of your wait.
Is there parking?
There's a small amount of paid on-street parking in the surrounding area. If travelling by bus then the nearest stops are Valley Gardens, Old Steine or Law Courts and there are several cycle racks nearby.
Do you offer a discount or concessions rate?
I do offer a small number of concessionary spaces - please ask at the point of contact to see if this is possible.
How do I pay?
I ask for payment in advance for your first appointment, this is requested via email in an invoice. Payment is to be made no later than 72 hours of your session - either by bank transfer or the payment button on your invoice.
Thereafter, I’ll invoice you in the third week of the month for sessions within that month. If you’re an international client then you’ll receive a payment link at the same time as your invoice.
What if I can’t make an appointment?
All missed or cancelled sessions incur the session fee. Where possible I’ll try to reschedule but this isn’t always available.
For reference, my planned absences are listed on my ‘contact page’ but there are no sessions on Bank Holidays, in August or for the 2 weeks across major UK holidays such as Easter & Christmas.
What if I’m running late?
I have my phone on 5 minutes before scheduled appointments. Please call or text to let me know you’re late. The remainder of the allocated session time is yours upon arrival.
How confidential are you?
Confidentiality is key in the therapeutic relationship as it facilitates building trust. However, the Law states there are situations whereby therapists may need to inform other agencies. For example: if there's a risk of harm or neglect to a child then there’s a duty of care under The Children's Act 1989. In any other circumstances, I will attempt to speak with you in the first instance so that we can co-create the best approach for ensuring you get any additional support you may need.
Can I follow you on social media?
Please be aware that whilst social media profiles may show on google results, I’ve deactivated and deleted all my social media profiles as of 2024. This is because of the impact it can have on mental health and I prefer to walk the talk wherever I have opportunity. You can contact me for enquiries via my contact page or email.
Want to take the next step?
Complete my enquiry form and I’ll be in contact to arrange a free, initial phone consultation. In the call you’ll be able to ask any questions you may have and get a feel for the kind of person I am.
