What is personal development therapy?

(or therapy for self-esteem & confidence)

Personal Development counselling includes many different facets of life. You may wish to develop confidence in the workplace or relationships, improve your communication or cultivate listening. You might also be wanting to improve your relationship to yourself.

Therapy for personal development can be considered as a ‘preventative medicine’ or a way of ensuring you can commit to the changes you want to see in life. In our enthusiasm for change, we might overlook the underlying feelings or thoughts that will eventually become the obstacle standing in our way. Maybe your inner critic is loud or your past experiences have left you feeling unworthy of living the life you envisage for yourself?Understanding our self and ways we might prevent our own success means we’re then less like to sabotage our efforts. Spending time discussing your story, your hopes, fears and personal relationships provides a space to notice patterns or observe ways in which you’ve done things differently. Change doesn’t happen overnight, as much as we might wish it to. Change happens one degree at a time, so each time we do something differently or with conscious awareness, we build upon our new foundation. Over time, you’ll see that one degree at a time adds up to 90 degrees, or an entire 180!

Clients sometimes seek personal development alongside their original reason for seeking therapy. By getting in touch with how they truly feel, they can begin to consider new possibilities in life.

“Through the therapeutic relationship you’ll discover ways to live a wholehearted and authentic life.”

In addition to individual therapy, I also run personal development groups. They’re an opportunity to share space with others and understand how you might relate to them, and them to you.
